Introduction
Welcome to the official Studio documentation.
- Ways to start
- 5 options
- Build with
- Prompt, form or canvas
- Import format
- .agent.json
1.What is Studio?
Studio is a visual platform for building AI agents and workflows. You can describe the agent you want in plain language and let Studio build the workflow, fill in a simple form, or design the workflow yourself on an empty canvas.
- Agent
- An AI-powered assistant that follows instructions to complete a task.
- Workflow
- The sequence of steps that defines how the agent does it.
Studio lets you create both without starting from a blank page every time.
2.What you can do
- Generate an agent from a description
- Write what you want in plain language and Studio builds a matching workflow.
- Set up an agent with a guided form
- Define its role, goal, instructions, model, tools and knowledge.
- Build a workflow manually
- Start from an empty workflow and build it your way.
- Start from a template
- Pick a ready-made workflow from the template gallery and adapt it.
- Import an agent
- Bring in an agent shared with you as an
.agent.jsonfile. - Keep an eye on activity
- The dashboard summarizes your workflows, live agents, running agents, dashboards and month-to-date spend.
3.Ways to start building
Studio gives you three main ways to start building an AI agent: describe it in plain language, fill in a guided form, or build the workflow yourself on a blank canvas. You can also start from a template or import an existing agent.
| Option | What it does | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Generate with AI | Turns a written description into a workflow. | Prompt field at the top of the dashboard |
| New agent | Guided setup for the agent's role, goal, instructions, model, tools and knowledge. | Start something new section |
| Blank canvas | Starts from an empty workflow that you build yourself. | Start something new section |
| Templates | Starts from a ready-made workflow. | Start something new section, or Browse all templates |
| Import agent | Loads an agent from an .agent.json file. | Start something new section |
Generate with AI
Generate with AI lets you create an agent just by describing it. Write what you want in plain language, such as what the agent should do, what it needs from the user and what it should return, and Studio builds the workflow for you.
Best for
- Getting a first version of an agent quickly.
- Users who know what they want the agent to do but not how to structure the workflow.
- Beginners who are new to visual workflow building.
How to use it
Click the prompt field on the dashboard.
Describe the agent: its purpose, what the user provides, what it should do and what it should return.
Click Generate.
Example prompt
Create an agent that accepts a city name, retrieves the current weather, and provides a concise weather summary.
New agent
New agent lets you create an agent by filling in a form instead of building a workflow. Unlike Generate with AI, you decide which model the agent uses and which features it has.
Start by telling the agent how to behave: give it a role, a goal and instructions. Then choose what the agent works with:
- Model
- The AI model that powers the agent.
- Mode
- Choose Simple for one direct answer per prompt, or Agent when you want the agent to use tools and knowledge.
- Output Format
- How the agent formats its responses.
- Knowledge
- Reference material, such as documents, that the agent can draw on when it answers.
- Tools
- Capabilities the agent can use, such as searching for information.
- Skills
- Reusable instructions that extend what the agent can do.
- Automation
- Run the agent on a schedule, or start it with a trigger.
Finally, turn on any optional features:
- Memory
- Lets the agent remember context across turns of a conversation.
- Responsible AI
- Adds safety checks, PII masking and groundedness checks.
Best for
- Getting an agent running with a clear, guided setup.
- Users who want to choose the model and features themselves.
- Agents defined mainly by good instructions, a model and reference material.
How to use it
On the dashboard, select New agent.
Enter a role, a goal and instructions that describe how the agent should behave.
Choose the model and mode, then add any knowledge, tools, skills or automation you need.
Turn on optional features such as Memory or Responsible AI.
Click Create.
Example setup
- Role
- Customer Support Agent
- Goal
- Answer customer questions about our product accurately and politely.
- Instructions
- You are a helpful support agent. Answer questions politely using the FAQ knowledge base, and escalate anything you're unsure about.
Blank canvas
Start from an empty workflow and build it your way. On a blank canvas nothing is added for you, so you decide each step and how the steps connect.
Best for
- Users who want full control over the agent's logic.
- Workflows with a specific structure that a form would not capture.
- Learning how workflows are put together.
How to use it
On the dashboard, find Start something new.
Select Blank canvas.
Build your workflow on the canvas.
How it differs from New agent
New agent is a guided form: you fill in the settings and Studio sets up the agent. Blank canvas gives you an empty workflow that you build block by block.
Templates
Templates are ready-made workflows for common tasks. Each template shows its name, a short description, a category tag such as Support, and how many blocks it contains. Start from a template when one is close to what you need, then adapt it.
Best for
- Getting a working workflow for a common task without building it from scratch.
- Seeing how an example workflow is put together before you build your own.
How to use it
On the dashboard, scroll through the templates in Start something new, or select Browse all templates to see the full list. You can also open Templates from the left menu.
Select a template. Studio creates a new workflow from it.
Open the workflow on the canvas and change the blocks to fit your task.
Import agent
Import agent lets you bring in an agent that someone has shared with you as an .agent.json file.
Best for
- Reusing an agent a colleague built.
- Moving an agent from one Studio workspace to another.
How to use it
On the dashboard, find Start something new.
On the Import agent card, select Choose file.
Select the
.agent.jsonfile on your computer.Studio adds the agent to your workspace. Open it to review its settings and credentials before you deploy it.
